2021 Audi A6 allroad Review

Overview
Upscale interior with impressive amenities; Sportier and more agile than most SUVs; High-tech drivetrain can handle tough weather; Available driver-assistance technologies
High starting price expands with options; Lacks an SUV's commanding view of the road; Some wagons offer more horsepower and speed
Unlike luxury SUVs that are commonplace on today's roads, the Audi A6 Allroad stands out. A more rugged version of the A6 Avant station wagon not sold in the United States, adding durable fender flares and a height-adjustable air suspension for navigating rough roads. Its sophisticated cabin seamlessly integrates technology and comfort. Though it lacks an SUV's ride height, the A6 Allroad is sleek and highly capable, no matter the weather.
What's New for 2021
Trims and Pricing
The A6 Allroad is an all-wheel-drive midsize station wagon with a turbocharged V6 engine and an automatic transmission. Audi offers the Allroad in two trim levels: Premium Plus and Prestige.
Pricing starts at around $66,000 for the Premium Plus. Its surround-view camera system gives the driver multiple camera angles, including a bird's-eye view for easier maneuverability. Front and rear parking sensors help mitigate fender-benders, and automatic emergency braking will bring the vehicle to a stop if an impending collision is detected. Exterior features include automatic LED headlamps, fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding mirrors, dual moonroofs, and a motion-activated power liftgate.
The interior is trimmed in fine leather, with heated front seats, two driver's seat memory settings, a split-folding rear row, keyless entry/ignition, and tri-zone climate control. Audi includes its premium MMI infotainment system, with dual 10-inch touchscreens, Bluetooth, voice-activated features, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, premium audio, navigation, and wireless phone charging.
Moving up to the Prestige adds high-end comforts and conveniences for about $72,000. It gets a heads-up display that projects navigation and driver-assistance visuals onto the windshield. Those who commute regularly will appreciate adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist, which help keep the vehicle in its lane and a safe distance from other cars. Other notable details are blind-spot monitoring, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and rear-side sunshades.
An available Black Optic Package adds gloss-black exterior styling elements, giving the Allroad a stealthier look.
Engine and Performance
One engine is available for the A6 Allroad, a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that runs on premium fuel. It produces 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, with added efficiency from a mild-hybrid electrical system. Regenerative braking saves some of the kinetic energy that would otherwise be lost, preserving it in an auxiliary battery to run cabin electronics.
The A6 Allroad has excellent acceleration and handling. Its suspension is similar to that of a high-end sports sedan, with adaptive dampers that adjust to changing road conditions. Audi's legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system comes standard for great driving in snow, mud, and rain.
Fuel economy is adequate for a midsize station wagon. The EPA estimates the A6 Allroad will return 20/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined.
Interior
For a functional family station wagon, the A6 Allroad has a plush and sophisticated interior. High-end leatherette, metal, and wood trim accents the cabin area, with sleek lines and plenty of space for passengers to stretch out. The seats are soft and supportive, with moderate side bolstering to help keep passengers in place. The front seats are heated and have multi-way power adjustment. Meanwhile, occupants in the back also get comfortable seats, with cargo nets, door bins, and their own automatic temperature controls.
Unlike the typical luxury vehicle's panoramic sunroof, the A6 Allroad comes standard with a separate glass panel for each row.
The A6 Allroad shares its infotainment system with Audi SUVs. It's a dual-screen setup that gives the cabin a futuristic appeal, with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless smartphone charging and a WiFi hotspot are also standard. The infotainment software works well, with easy navigation and many settings to change. The sound quality is superb, thanks to the 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system.
You can find some excellent features on the infotainment screen. Audi includes a gyrometer to visualize the car as it drives over differing terrain. The driver can view the vehicle's tilt, pitch, roll, and yaw displayed using a full-color miniature of the A6 Allroad. It is a beautiful complement to the included height-adjustable air suspension, giving the driver all the information they need to manage precarious situations with more confidence.
