2020 Audi A8 Review

Smaller trunk than some rivals; Additional comforts can be costly
The Audi A8 is the pinnacle of luxury and technology for the Audi brand and is an excellent choice for buyers seeking a no-compromises premium executive vehicle. The Audi A8 continues to push the boundaries by showcasing the latest in design and innovation from Audi. Redesigned in 2019, the A8 remains at the forefront of the segment offering a simplified design language employing the latest technology.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
The A8 comes in three styles that are differentiated by their powertrain. The 55 TFSI version comes standard with a V6 under the hood and starts close to $85,000. The two additional styles are the 60 TFSI and 60 TFSI e which sport a V8 and V6 plug-in hybrid respectively. Either of these two versions can be had for around $10,000 more than the 55 TFSI.
Despite different powertrains, the A8 comes in only one trim known as the A8 L. The L denotes long-wheelbase meaning the target customers for Audi are those seeking maximum rear seating space and comfort. A single trim means every A8 comes equipped with the same base set of standard features.
Starting outside the A8 features 19-inch alloy wheels, an adaptive air suspension, LED headlights and taillights with high beam assist, auto-dimming and power-folding outside mirrors, power soft-close doors, power open/close trunk, a dual panoramic sunroof, proximity keyless entry, and rain-sensing wipers. The A8 interior includes a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, dual haptic touch center displays with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Bluetooth connectivity, a Bang & Olufsen 17-speaker 3D sound system, four-zone automatic climate control, LED ambient lighting, heated power seats with memory settings, and power rear window sunshades. Driver assistance and safety technologies include front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and Audi pre sense basic and front.
An array of option packages are also available to customize the A8 to your desired level of comfort, technology, and luxury.
Engine and Performance
There are three powertrains offered on the Audi A8. The 55 TFSI comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that creates 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The 60 TFSI e features a plug-in hybrid setup that adds a 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery to the turbocharged V6 and makes a combined 443 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the 60 TFSI version moves up to a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that puts out 453 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque.
The 55 and 60 TFSI both include 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to help improve efficiency. Every A8 also comes standard with quattro all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Interior
The Audi A8 has few rivals for interior design and comfort. A 2019 update showcased Audi’s latest interior design language. The A8 features dual haptic touch displays surrounded by standard luxurious real wood trim and Valetta leather, providing a seamless blend of modern technology and classic luxury. Seating space and comfort are a top priority for the A8’s long-wheelbase design to ensure that every passenger’s comfort is accounted for. Additional options can be pricey but are available to offer additional comforts such as massage seats or rear seating footrests.
The ride quality in the A8 is superb with the cutting edge adaptive air suspension absorbing nearly every imperfection on the road. Cabin noise is also held to a minimum giving you a complete separation from the outside world during travel.
