What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
Ford makes the Transit in four different configurations: van, wagon, chassis cab and direct cab-to-body. For the van and wagon models, there are three roof heights available, plus three wheelbases ranging from 138 inches to 178 inches. Van models can handle a range of cargo volumes and weight capacities, allowing businesses to configure the vehicle to suit their needs. The wagon can be outfitted to transport up to 15 people at a time, when the longest wheelbase option is selected. Standard features on all models include front air conditioning, rear air conditioning on longer wheelbase models, power accessories, three 12-volt power outlets, and a sound system with two speakers and a radio. There are a number of options that can be added to the different models. These include LED lights, leather wrapped steering wheel, navigation, a sound system with 8 speakers, Sync voice controls, lane departure warning, rearview camera, and chrome exterior trim pieces. Buyers can also add a number of interior features, from cabinets, to racks, and any number of other features that accommodate a variety of needs. Ford also offers vehicle wraps so businesses can advertise on the outside of their vehicles. A Transit comes with a factory invoice of about $33,000 and an MSRP of about $35,000. Of course, going to your Certified Dealer will give you as a member an upfront price that will save you money.
Engine and Performance
Three different engine choices are available for the Ford Transit. A 3.7-liter V6 engine uses twin independent variable cam timing to produce 266 horsepower. A 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine uses turbocharging to put out 320 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. The third engine is a 3.2-liter turbodiesel that puts out 346 lb.-ft. of torque. Each engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Interior
While nobody is going to go so far as to call the interior of the Transit stylish or luxurious, it is far advanced when compared to the E-Series vans' interiors. The dashboard, gauge cluster and the rest of the front of the interior looks quite modern, complete with a black color scheme with some silver accents. The controls and gauges are pretty simple and easy to learn, and the gear selector is embedded into the lower portion of the center stack, making it much easier to use than a steering column-mounted gear selector. The interior materials are made up of plenty of hard plastics and basic cloth upholstery. One of the shining features is the Sync system and control screen, if the vehicle is so equipped, which adds a number of entertainment features to keep the driver and passengers happy during longer rides. Ford includes a number of storage pockets to keep coins, drinks, sunglasses and whatever else is needed. The rear cargo area is spacious, depending on the vehicle's configuration, as are the rear seats. Speaking of the seats, they are somewhat comfortable.
